Race Across AMerica (RAAM) is billed as The World's Toughest Bike Race!
Created in 1982, the Race Across AMerica (RAAM) is now the longest running ultra-distance bicycle endurance competition in the world. This is not a stage race like the Tour de France, where each day a set distance is covered. In RAAM the gun fires somewhere on the West Coast (Oceanside, CA in 2008), and the finishing line is over 3000 miles away--on the other side of the continent.

Competitors can be soloist riders or composed of teams ranging from two to eight members. The teams can also be all female, male, or mixed -- with both men and women.
This team is composed of four women, each 50 years of age or more, who are national and world class athletes. The race will have two riders racing together and rotating turns over four to six hours while the other two are resting. Then these two will rest while the other two riders will start their rotations.
Just like pioneers in early days, we race regardless of wind, rain, heat, hail, time of day, or exhaustion. We are “tough” women who can take it all without stopping from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD.
What do we do that makes us “tough?”
- We bike from 170 feet below sea level to a high of 10,500 feet above sea level
- We climb as a team over 108,000 feet (roughly the distance from ground to outer space)
- We cross the five longest rivers that are entirely in the United States
- We average about 6 hours of sleep per day taken in two naps
- We never complain and think this is just another “most wonderful week” in our lives.
Our goal is to raise funds for the Partnership of Rural Colorado Boys and Girls Clubs. This organization is an awesome group of 6,000 boys and girls who look up to our team, plus the people and organizations who follow our team, as role models. They are a 501(c) (3) and are worthy of your consideration for a donation. Here is some information on the Partnership of Rural Colorado Boys and Girls Clubs
